What is Gift Aid?
|
The Gift Aid scheme was introduced by the Government and is an easy way to make your donations tax effective. When you sign a Gift Aid declaration, the charity can reclaim the basic rate tax from HMRC. There is no extra cost to you and all you have to do is sign a Gift Aid declaration. Signing a declaration does not commit you to anything; it simply lets us claim from HMRC, an extra 25p for every £1 you donate.
What is a Gift Aid declaration? A Gift Aid declaration is a simple statement by an individual taxpayer that they want the charity to claim back the tax paid out on their donation from HMRC. It is a great way to add value to your donation without costing you any extra!
How does Gift Aid work? In order for us to claim on your donations you must have paid enough income or capital gains tax in the same financial year. If you pay higher rate tax, Healing the Wounds can only claim back at the basic rate but please complete and return the declaration anyway. Gift Aid is only applicable to ‘donations’ – i.e. it can’t be claimed on ticket sales as the donor is receiving something in return.
What if I don’t pay UK tax? Then you are not eligible to make a Gift Aid Declaration. If you are not sure about anything regarding Gift Aid then you can find further information on HMRC website.
Who will have access to my information? Only Healing the Wounds and HMRC. We do not pass on information to anyone else.
Can Gift Aid be applied to events sponsorship? Yes, in most cases it can. If you are eligible (you have paid enough income or capital gains tax) please tick the Gift Aid box on a sponsorship form along with providing your name, home address and postcode and Healing the Wounds can claim Gift Aid on sponsorship. NB Gift Aid boxes are included on all HTW sponsorship forms.
