Lance Sergeant Dan Collins

Family and friends were devastated to hear the sad news of Lance Sergeant Dan Collins tragic death on New Years day.

Dan joined the Welsh Guards at just 16 years old giving the Armed Forces over 13 years dedicated service for his country.' Army Dan ' as he was known, did his tours in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan and in Helmand 2009, came close to death several times, but miraculously survived being shot in the back and leg and was involved in two bomb blasts.

He was a victim of war and as such should be regarded as a hero, althoughbeing constantly tormented by his horrific experiences during life on the battlefield, he continued to fight through his own battles to defend his country and the people he loved.

Unfortunately Dan could no longer cope with the mental trauma that had haunted him for years and the pressure of suffering flashbacks, nightmares and his grief resulting from the death of many close comrades, he sadly took his own life on New Years day.

Dan's family have a long road of recovery to bear themselves and we at Healing the Wounds would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to them.  Dan, you are now out of the darkness and will be forever remembered as a true hero of war, we salute you, rest in peace.
